The Indic@tor study provides an analysis of the employability of ICT
professionals. The study will be replicated in 7 European countries representing
different cultural clusters: Anglo-Saxon (UK), Nordic (Norway), Germanic (the
Netherlands and Germany), Eastern European (Poland), Latin (Italy), and Near
East (Greece). Each cluster is coordinated by a research centre specialising in
employability issues.
The specific objectives of the project are:
1. To define and operationalise individual
employability within the context of
the ICT profession in SMEs.
2. To examine which individual, job-related and organizational factors have an
impact
on employability in the different phases of a working career.
3. To explore in what ways the employability and growth potential of individual
employees throughout their career can be enhanced.
4. To develop a management tool which will facilitate career development, and in
particular, employability enhancement strategies, of individual ICT
professionals working in SMEs.
5. To formulate practical recommendations, or best practice employability
strategies, to be disseminated to individual ICT professionals, SME management,
European policymakers, ICT training experts in private and public training
institutes, ICT-related associations, and to scientists in related areas.
* The survey measures employability for ICT professionals, some of its
hypothesized antecedents (e.g. mentoring, networking) and its outcomes (e.g. job
success, career satisfaction).
* The instrument has been validated in each
country's language through a series
of pilot studies.
* A smaller questionnaire (also translated to each countrys language) is
intended for supervisors.
